About us

SAFE SPORT MEDITERRANEAN & MIDDLE EAST is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting safeguarding and welfare in sport and extracurricular activities for all sport participants, with a focus on children and young people.

Our mission is to support governments and organisations to establish, implement, and maintain safeguarding practices that minimise the risk of abuse and ensure that sport and other extracurricular activities remain safe and enjoyable for all participants.

SAFE SPORT MEDITERRANEAN & MIDDLE EAST, in collaboration with governments, national organisations, associations, local and international policy makers, and academic research institutions, aims to reshape safeguarding and child welfare in sport and other extracurricular activities across the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Our Approach:

We believe that, while athlete welfare is everyone's responsibility, the state carries a leading responsibility for it. The state should regulate sport and establish and implement a complete safeguarding framework that is locally adapted and integrated into existing legal, welfare, and support structures. International safeguarding standards and guidelines are meant to serve as tools for developing each state's own framework. Our organisation works through a culturally sensitive approach, delivering tailor-made consultancy and solutions for safeguarding and safe sport.
